CAF Dismisses Egyptian Referee Who Officiated Nigeria vs Zambia

Referee In Nigeria vs Zambia Match

News from AFCON 2013 in South Africa says that the Egyptian referee, Ghead Grisha, who officiated the Group C match between Super Eagles of Nigeria and Zambia has been sacked and sent home from the on-going tournament.

The referee awarded a rather controversial penalty at the late minute of the game to Zambia, giving them an equalizing goal.

A top official of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed on Sunday that the 36-year old referee, who became an international referee in 2008, will take no longer take part in the on-going championship in South Africa.

“He has been sent home. He will have no further action at this Cup of Nations. His decisions did not tally with best practices of the refereeing profession and we would not allow anyone to start re-writing the rules of the game here,” said the official.

The dismissal was confirmed in a statement signed by the Assistant Media Director, for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mr Ademola Olajire.

Am certain that a mixed set of reactions would be heard from Nigerian soccer fans as some would say "What's the benefit of it? The damage has been done". The light on the matter is that other referees from now on would handle their whistles with caution.

But Dear Super Eagles, what shall it profit a referee to award a penalty to your opponent when you are leading the match with like 2 or 3 goals!!!!!!

it's a painful thing when one was sure of a win only for the reckless refree to award a rather controversial penalty to Zambia at the dying minutes of the game when he knew that the match mattered to Nigerians a great deal. now we pray the God of soccer to have pity and mercy on us.
