There was chaos in the city of Port Harcourt on Saturday 28 Jan 2012 following a bomb scare in the area when residents found a planted time-bomb on a building at Owoh Street, by Osina Street In Diobu. This Diobu in Port Harcourt, happens to be the Ajegunle version in PH (in terms of ghetto life).

Seeing the trouble in the area at about 1.30 pm, the residents alerted the police for the fear of Boko Haram bomb in Port Harcourt. The "bomb" was handled by the arrival of a bomb disposal squad who took care of the situation.

Though reports coming from the Rivers State Police Command are saying that the improvised explosive device (IED) recovered by its men in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, the State capital, was fake.

The State commissioner of police, Mr. Suleiman Abbah, told journalists in Port Harcourt, yesterday, that the device was a hoax planted by mischief makers to create fear in the mind of residents.

He said, “The EOD (Anti Bomb Unit) team led by DSP Taiwo Akingbehin arrived at the scene at about 1530 hours. It met the object placed at the foot of the left side wall of the said building. The Police team carried out EOD technical assessment on the object and found it to be a bomb hoax.

“Rendering safe procedure and observing all safety precautions it was destroyed at around 1700 hrs. Object was suspected to have been placed by mischief makers to cause fear in the inhabitants.”
