About 98 persons lost their lives this morning on the East-West Road, at Okogbe community in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, when a crashed petrol tanker from which they were scooping fuel exploded in flames.
According to gist, the tanker was said to be avoiding a head on collision with a commercial vehicle at about 7am when it lost control and ran into a ditch, falling on its side.
Rivers State police spokesman Ben Ugwuegbulam explained:
Early this morning a tanker loaded with petrol fell in Okogbe and people trooped to the scene obviously to scoop the spilled fuel and suddenly there was fire resulting in casualties
